Itinerary

Follow this 8-day plan covering Munnar’s rolling tea hills, Thekkady’s forests, Kumarakom’s serene backwaters and an Alleppey houseboat. Sightseeing options are provided for information; availability and timings may vary.

DAY 1 - Cochin to Munnar

Arrival at Cochin Airport (assistance on arrival) and drive to Munnar (140 km – approx. 4 hours). On arrival, check into the hotel. Day at leisure. Overnight stay in Munnar.

DAY 2 - Munnar sightseeing

Spend the day with local sightseeing. Munnar is situated at the confluence of three mountain streams – Mudrapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundale – at 1600 meters above sea level. Once the summer resort of the British government in South India, Munnar offers attractions such as Mattupetty Dam, Kundale Lake and Echo Point. Afternoon proceed to Rajamalai to spot the rare Nilgiri Tahr. Overnight stay in Munnar.

DAY 3 - Munnar (leisure)

Day at leisure for own activities. Overnight stay in Munnar.

DAY 4 - Munnar to Thekkady

After breakfast, check out from the hotel and drive to Thekkady (110 km – approx. 3 hours). On arrival, check into the hotel. Day at leisure. Overnight stay in Thekkady.

DAY 5 - Thekkady sightseeing

Proceed for a sightseeing tour of Thekkady. Visit Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, spread across 777 sq. km, with 360 sq. km of thick evergreen forest. Declared a Tiger Reserve in 1978, the sanctuary is famous for its wildlife and scenic beauty. Optional activities (extra cost): boating at Periyar Lake, spice plantation visit, bamboo rafting, trekking and elephant ride. Overnight stay in Thekkady.

DAY 6 - Thekkady to Kumarakom

After early breakfast, check out from the hotel and drive to Kumarakom (170 km – approx. 5 hours). On arrival, check into the hotel. Local sightseeing in and around Kumarakom, a backwater hamlet on the western banks of Vembanad Lake. Options include canoe, motor boat or houseboat rides. Overnight stay in Kumarakom.

DAY 7 - Kumarakom to Alleppey (houseboat)

Early morning around 6:00 am, proceed for bird sanctuary visit. After breakfast, check out from the hotel and drive to Alleppey (40 km – approx. 1 hour). Alleppey, a backwater town with lakes, lagoons and rivers, is also famous for boat races, beaches, coir and marine products. On arrival, check into the houseboat (check-in time 1:00 pm). Enjoy backwater cruise on Vembanad Lake. Overnight stay in the houseboat.

DAY 8 - Alleppey to Cochin departure

After breakfast, check out from the houseboat at 9:30 am and drive to Cochin Airport (70 km – approx. 2.5 hours) for onward journey.
